first_imgArgos Refuse to Go Away in Regional Win Over Statesmen May 19, 2007 Box Score  ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the fifth time in six games this year, West Florida (43-18, No. 3 seed) downed perennial power Delta State (45-16, No. 5 seed) today, 2-1. The win marked fifth consecutive win over DSU this year, including three in the postseason, and two in the regionals. The Argonauts scored two runs on no hits, two errors, and two wild pitches in the bottom of the eighth inning.Jon Sintes (10-4) was the answer on the mound for UWF. He pitched a complete game allowing one run on five hits with four walks and six strike outs. Offensively, UWF struggled with just three hits. All three hits were singles. Statesmen starter Robert Tucker tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings. He allowed all three hits, while walking two and striking out four. He received the no decision.Delta State scored a run in the third off Sintes. J.T. Taylor was hit by a pitch with one out. Hunter Jobes had a bunt single to put runners on first and second. Chris Clark singled in Taylor to put DSU on top, 1-0.The Argos had just two hits through six innings off Tucker, both by Justin Wood. Bo Williams led off the seventh with a single up the middle. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, and he took third on a sacrifice bunt by Clay Wallace. Jacob Whisenhunt struck out for the second out. Kyle Andrews was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners. Tucker walked Wood to load the bases, and the Statesmen called on reliever Taylor Fleming to face Daniel Jones. The Argos stranded the bases loaded when Jones grounded out to the shortstop.West Florida threatened again in the bottom of the eighth inning off DSU reliever Kyle Ozbun. DeBos was hit by a pitch to start things off for UWF. Peter Antoske reached on a fielder’s choice ground ball hit to Chris Clark at first base. A throwing error by Clark on his attempt to throw out DeBos at second, and DeBos took third base put two runners on with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Jason Kohl scored DeBos to tie the game at 1-1. A wild pitch allowed Antoske to take second base. Delta State intentionally walked Williams to put runner on first and second and one out. Williams and Antoske advanced to second and third base on another fielding error by Clark on a grounder hit by Clay Wallace. Another wild pitch allowed the go ahead run to score, and UWF took a 2-1 lead. Ozbun struck out Whisenhunt, and Andrews lined out to second to end the inning.Sintes stayed in the game for the ninth. Devin Goodwin grounded out to third. Pinch hitter Derek Norris grounded out to short, and Jobes flew out to center for a 1-2-3 ninth inning.West Florida will play Angelo State tomorrow at 12 p.m. for the right to play Montevallo in the final late tomorrow afternoon. The winner of West Florida / Angelo State will need to beat Montevallo twice (Sunday and Monday). Delta State has been eliminated from the tournament. Philo Germano wins mile run at ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships

first_imgSyracuse only had four runners compete in the 2018 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, but Philo Germano made his presence known. On Sunday in Boston, Germano won the men’s mile run final with a time of 4:04.92 while teammate Simon Smith placed fourth with a time of 4:07.23.On Saturday, Nathan Henderson just missed the men’s mile final, placing 11th. In the women’s mile, Sydney Leiher also didn’t advance, placing 15th.Next up for the Orange is the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9 at Texas A&M. After that, the Orange will start its outdoor season at the Florida Relays on March 29.
