The winners from Gbarnga lifted two giant-size trophies and the losers also received consolation trophies. One of the New Kru Town U-12 players during the presentation of the trophies broke down and wept for his team’s loss, while the Gbarnga boys went into jubilation, singing, “That’s how we do it here.”Both winners showed great skill on the field and it was clear that they were prepared to win their matches. Groves set for rematch with Anderson

first_imgGeorge Groves will defend his British super-middleweight title in a rematch against Kenny Anderson at Wembley Arena on Saturday 16 March. The unbeaten Hammersmith fighter, who also holds the Commonwealth belt, was given a tough time by Anderson when they clashed in November 2010.Groves endured some worrying moments and was floored before battling back to stop the Scot in the sixth round of an explosive fight in Manchester.Double champion Groves is unbeaten in his 14 fights. It is the 29-year-old Anderson’s only defeat in his 15 professional contests and he has secured a rematch after the British Boxing Board of Control installed him as the mandatory challenger.Their second encounter takes places 10 days before Groves’ 24th birthday and will give an indication of how far the Londoner has progressed since beating Anderson. He beat bitter local rival James DeGale on a majority points decision last May to take the British title, and ended 2011 with a two-round demolition of former champion Paul Smith. But he continues to be criticised for being too easy to hit and was caught with a crunching right during his brief fight with Smith, which was also at Wembley Arena.A second victory over Anderson could pave the way for another grudge match with DeGale or a possible world title shot later this year.Promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids to stage the fight, which Anderson wanted to take place in his home city of Edinburgh.Related stories and features:Injury rules Groves out of Liverpool fightA work in progressI’m not world class – yetGroves blasts away Smith at Wembley‘Ugly kid’ looks the partDeGale eyes rematch with ‘chicken’ GrovesLet history decideOnes to watch in 2012 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

8 Ways To Leverage The “I Like To Watch” Ubertrend

first_imgmichael tchong What Nobody Teaches You About Getting Your Star… Were you surprised that the Boston Marathon bombers were caught on video? You shouldn’t have been. How about a meteor falling in Russia? Or a pizza delivery guy urinating on a customer’s door after receiving too small a tip? Then there’s that plane crashing on a Russian highway. All these phenomena are part of an ubertrend I call Voyeurgasm – and it’s changing our lives and maybe even your future.CBS dedicates part of its website, called Caught on Tape, to videos like these. It’s a nod to the global popularity of YouTube, which announced this March that it reached 1 billion monthly users who watch some 6 billion hours of video each month. The History Of VoyeurgasmVoyeurgasm, the “I like to watch” ubertrend, made its debut with the Rodney King beating in 1991, arguably one of the first surreptitiously videotaped events to make headlines. What came next was a host of candid moments caught by camcorders, surveillance cameras or mobile phones – a wave that virtually guarantees that one day just about everything will be digitally captured. How to Get Started in China and Have Success China and America want the AI Prize Title: Who … This ubertrend spurred a host of subtends, including reality shows, like MTV’s The Real World, which debuted in 1992; Celebrity Worship Syndrome, coined in 2003 and propelled by “pixel paparazzis;” HDTV in 1998; helicopter police chases, including the infamous 1994 O.J. Simpson car chase; YouTube in 2005; and now Google Glass.(See also Google Glass: What Do You Want To Know About Google’s Internet Eyewear.)The current concerns about Google Glass and the privacy issues its surreptitious use entails are just a preview of things to come. Here’s how Voyeurgasm will reshape your future, including business ideas and career opportunities:1-3. Streaming MediaWith YouTube now receiving some 72 hours of video every minute, it’s evident that growth of mobile videos opens many opportunities for entrepreneurs to create dedicated sites to harness the millions of hours of videos that will be uploaded each minute by 2020. Here are a few ideas that merit your attention:1. Makeup Videos: A quick Google search suggests that this segment is wide open with Makeup Geek being the top player. Not only could beauty sites encourage the improved application of makeup, but they would also propel new makeup trends, like High Definition Makeup.2. Nature/Underwater Videos: Nature and underwater video searches lead to YouTube channels – but YouTube is a general-interest destination and is not likely to be the first choice of dedicated birdwatchers or snorkelers. This presents an opportunity to sell outdoors or underwater gear to intrepid visitors.3. Shopping Videos: We like to buy stuff, so we watch a lot of “unboxing” videos on YouTube. That means there is plenty of opportunity to create innovative shopping videos that provide visitors with quick, yet informative insights about buying particular products. Once again a search for “shopping videos” leads to positively benign results.4. Video RecruitmentIn the next four years, about 20 million college graduates will be looking for full-time employment. Since few possess relevant experience, a quick 90-second video might give a prospective employer a better insight into their talents. Monster accepts videos for recruiters, but few recruitment sites let you add video profiles. One new player, does play up this feature.5. Looking At CookingAs the Cox News Service reported back in Jan. 2007, “It’s one of the ironies of modern life that cooking shows and books are so hugely popular when much of the time we eat on the move or settle down in front of the TV with a microwaved frozen dinner. The preparing, cooking, tasting and eating of food have become voyeuristic pleasures separated from physical reality.” The trend is dubbed “gastroporn.” While this segment may be well-covered by television networks, what about facility and supply management? Think kitchen demonstration studios or food prep staffers who specialize in optimizing food for video consumption.6. YouTube Studio RentalsSo now you’re ready to shoot your gastroporn or job-seeking vid – but how do you make it great? Some folks have beautiful decks or nice living rooms but few have access to camera-friendly backdrops, let alone the lighting setups needed to shoot professional-looking videos. It’s odd that entrepreneurs haven’t thought of opening up a national chain of “YouTube Studios” – facilities you could rent by the hour to shoot your talkshow or other viral inspiration.7. Video AccessoriesYou have decided to become a pixel paparazzi- on a budget. So can you handhold your iPhone or Android handset to shoot your videos? Sure, but some kind of steady grip would be better. With the notable exception of UK-based Modahaus, which offers the iPhone Steady Stand ($20), few companies have staked out this product category. One Kickstarter project, the Paparazzo Light, failed – perhaps due to a lack of audience reach or functionality.8. Surveillance GearA market research report from ReportsNReports estimates that the market for smart surveillance gear and video analytics will explode from $14 billion in 2012 to $39 billion by 2020. A poll conducted after the Boston bombing found broad public support for surveillance gear, with 78% of Americans saying they thought surveillance cameras were a good idea. Frankly, I’m amazed that those Russian dashboard cams are not more popular here in America. Are you ready to leverage the increased transparency offered by Voyeurgasm? You know what they say, “There are people who make things happen, there are those who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened.” This ubertrend offers the opportunity to do the first two at the same time so you don’t have to do the last one. See also:10 Compelling Ways People Plan To Use Google Glass5 Socially Unacceptable Things You’re Going To Do WIth Google GlassGoogle Glass: Our Lives Are Not Reality TVGoogle Glass: Is There Any Way To Jam It? Virat Kohli considers Test series win in Australia at par with 2011

first_imgVirat Kohli kissing the Border-Gavaskar trophy after India’s victory in AustraliaMark Kolbe/Getty ImagesEight years ago, Virat Kohli was an emerging player alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag in the Indian ODI team. That group of players achieved the memorable feat of winning the 2011 World Cup at home.In January, this year, Kohli, now established as a legend in Indian cricket and the best batsman in the world currently, led his team to a historic Test series win in Australia, the nation’s first in the land down under. The question is bound to be raised: Which of these two accomplishments Kohli considers bigger? In an interview that he and India head coach Ravi Shastri gave to Cricbuzz, the ace batsman decided to treat them as equally big.Kohli’s view”I would put the win in Australia at par with the World Cup,” was the reply of the current India skipper who led the Test side to the famous 2-1 win against the Aussies earlier this year. But Virat was also quick to emphasize the pre-eminent position of World Cup in the cricket world. “Look, you cannot place a World Cup win below anything else. It is a global tournament and the significance and the charm of the tournament is something else. It is always going to be the most important tournament in world cricket,” the 30-year old added. Kohli was relatively a junior member of the 2011 WC-winning sideINDRANIL MUKHERJEE/AFP/Getty ImagesHowever, the difficulty of Tests and the history of the team in Australia made the win in that nation equally important for India skipper. “If you look at the challenges that Test cricket brings, if you look at the fact that we had never ever done something like this in Australia before, then this becomes supremely significant too,” he explained. It may also be assumed that Kohli’s view on this issue is also affected by the fact that in 2011, he was a relatively junior member of the team while on the Australian tour of 2018/19, he was not only captaining the side but leading its batting unit. But, he and Shastri also insisted in the interview that putting team above everything is the new mantra of this Indian side.”I think the big shift in mindset was when from individuals, the focus moved to team culture and they (the players) started relishing a challenge. Take up a challenge and treat it as an opportunity,” Shastri asserted.last_img read more

Conference Focuses on Black Womens Reproductive Rights

first_imgAt a recent conference on abortion rights, access to contraceptive and comprehensive sexual education, there was a focus on the role of Black women’s roles in fight for reproductive justice. The “In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda Summit” was held Sept.25-26 in D.C. at the FHI 360 Conference Center, 1825 Connecticut Avenue NW.Organizations participating in the summit included Black Women for Wellness, Black Women’s Health Imperative, New Voices Pittsburgh, SisterLove Inc., and SPARK Reproductive Justice Now. The organizations represent more than 50,000 Black women throughout the United States.Historically, Black women have been at the center of reproductive justice policies in the country, Dorothy Roberts, University of Pennsylvania Law School, said. During her speech she mentioned that some of the first laws in the colonies were about Black women’s reproduction as it pertained to slavery.“I think Black women have a long history of organizing for reproductive justice. We coined the term and we have a framework that puts reproductive rights and decision making in a political context that is essential to understanding the role of it in society,” she said. Roberts was the keynote speaker for the event.“Black women’s resistance against reproductive oppressions has been part of our organizing and part of our vision to develop reproductive freedom,” she said.An example of the Black woman’s tenacity against reproductive oppression was seen in Roe vs. Wade, when Congress passed a law three years later that impacted low-income women, especially Black women who could not afford to pay for an abortion. “If you don’t have the money to access that right then you don’t have that right,” said Marcela Howell, founder and coordinator of the summit. The way the issues intersect health, economic status, social class, and political power were also addressed during the summit. “It is important because there is a certain level of intersectionality that amplifies where these issues live and how these issues impact Black women’s lives,” said Dázon Dixon Diallo, founder of SisterLove, an organization striving to eradicate the adverse impact of HIV/AIDS and other reproductive health challenges upon women through education, prevention, support and human rights advocacy.“It has to start where people are feeling it the most and that is with Black women and their bodies,” she said. For attendees like Melanie Medalle, policy and advocacy program manager in SisterLove, it is important for the summit to maintain a focus on the overall goal. “One thing is to come back to the definition of reproductive justice,” said Medalle. “I think having that conceptual anchor is very helpful.”The organizations plans to coordinate efforts to increase outreach in southern and northeast states, and establish partnerships with HBCUs throughout the country.last_img read more

Trinamool activist found dead in Bengal

first_imgKolkata: A Trinamool Congress activist was found dead at Bhangar in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday after being missing since Saturday night, police said. While the relative of the deceased claimed that the state ruling party activist has been killed by opposition party workers, police said they have not found any proof of murder. “The body of Shibu Debnath, a Trinamool Congress worker was found in a pond near his house in Bhangar’s Saitgachi on Sunday morning. There are no injury marks on the deceased’s body,” a senior officer from Bhangar police station said. The body has been sent for autopsy to find out how he died. No proof of him being murdered has been found as yet,” he said. The family members of Debnath accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of kidnapping and killing him. “He suddenly went missing yesterday. We guess that he was kidnapped and murdered by some BJP workers as he supported Trinamool Congress,” a relative claimed. The villages in Bhangar witnessed massive unrest over the construction of a power grid in the area for the last one year. Violent clashes took place between anti-power grid agitators and state ruling party Trinamool Congress workers several times including at the time of state rural polls in May.last_img read more
