YouTube/Arkansas RazorbacksFor the second straight season, the Arkansas Razorbacks have rebounded from a shaky start to the season to go on an impressive SEC West winning streak. Starting with a four-overtime win over Auburn, the Hogs have won four straight, with three victories in division. Two weeks ago, they beat Ole Miss in overtime, and last Saturday, they blew out LSU in Baton Rouge. Underestimating Arkansas would not be wise right now. With this week’s hype video ahead of the Mississippi State game, Arkansas has a message for the opposition: “don’t mess with them bad boys in red.”

Marcelo, for so long a mainstay at left-back at Real Madrid, is currently out of favour. Sergio Reguilon has taken the Brazilian’s place as Madrid’s first-choice left-back for the time being, as Marcelo started his first game at left-back on Thursday since January 6.Before then, Reguilon had started three consecutive matches at left-back, as the Castilla product continues to impress under Santiago Solari. The sight of Marcelo on the bench is an odd one for any Madrid supporter, with the 30-year-old having established himself among the world’s best at his position over the past decade. But injuries have affected Marcelo this term, the Brazilian having missed 10 games with various muscle problems, and he has not been at his best when healthy either.Additionally, Marcelo has struggled with his weight throughout his career, and his lack of consistent playing time this season has made it difficult for him to maintain his peak fitness.Despite his stuttering campaign so far Solari has insisted that he is still a big backer of Marcelo, and that he has reacted well to his recent benching. “His love for the club and his commitment to the club and his joy at training are undoubted, and his behaviour is impeccable. All these things must be praised,” the Madrid manager said on Wednesday.”It’s always a difficult task to pick the team.”Indeed, Madrid sources have confirmed to Goal that Marcelo’s response to his recent benching has been positive, and he is continuing to train hard with the hope of regaining his spot in Solari’s team.Unlike the case of Isco, another Madrid player out of favour, Marcelo’s relationship with Solari remains good, with no personal animosity between the pair. However, if Marcelo continues to be unable to regain his spot, rumours linking him with a summer switch to Juventus will increase.Several Madrid players have been tipped to follow Cristiano Ronaldo in making the move to Turin, and Ronaldo himself seemed to encourage his former team-mate to join him in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport last month.“Marcelo is strong, we open the doors to good players and Marcelo is one of them,” the Portuguese said. For now, though, Marcelo is happy at Madrid and Solari is still counting on him, despite his recent benching.
Manchester United will be striving to put a disappointing season behind them under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose promising start as manager fell apart into a sixth-placed league finish. The Man Utd legend was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s replacement and while he had a successful first few weeks as interim manager, the Red Devils’ form dipped towards the end of the campaign and they missed out on Champions League football.Next season, Solskjaer will be prioritising returning the club back to Europe’s elite and they’re thrown straight into high-profile action with an opener against top-four rivals Chelsea at Old Trafford. Lieke Martens is counting on Netherlands’ medical staff to get her fit for the Women’s World Cup final after the Barcelona star lasted just 45 minutes in Wednesday’s last-four win over Sweden. The 26-year-old has been troubled by a foot injury since team-mate Jill Roord stepped on her toe when celebrating Martens’ late winner in the last-16 victory against Japan.Martens did not train prior to facing Italy in the next round and though she completed 90 minutes then, the forward was withdrawn at half-time on Wednesday due to the pain. Megan Rapinoe missed out on the semi-final with a hamstring injury while Rose Lavelle also picked up an injury in that match. The pair have both said they plan to be fit in time for the match, though it remains a question if they’ll be ready to go the full 90.
ATHENS, GA – SEPTEMBER 6: Fans of the Georgia Bulldogs watch play against the Central Michigan Chippewas at Sanford Stadium on September 6, 2008 in Athens, Georgia. (Photo by Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images)A college football player was arrested earlier this week on charges of felony eavesdropping/surveillance as the result of an alleged incident that reportedly occurred during the fall of 2017.Georgia’s Detravion “Tray” Bishop was taken into custody at Athens-Clarke County Jail at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday – he was later released $5,700 bond, according to Dawgnation.com.Bishop’s arrest was the result of a University of Georgia Police investigation that began after they received a complaint from a woman in April. The aggrieved party reportedly told authorities that Bishop recorded a sex act without her permission on Nov. 5, 2017.From the report:“The complainant wished to report that there was a student going around showing people a sex tape of her … without her consent,” the police report said. “… A subsequent investigation into this incident led us into determining that the crime of unlawful eavesdropping occurred on [Nov. 5]. The investigation showed that Detravion Bishop had recorded [victim’s name] inside his dorm room without her permission and without her knowledge.”The Georgia football program is aware of the alleged incident and head coach Kirby Smart released the following statement.“Certainly it’s disappointing when a player or any other young person under our charge is arrested, and we don’t condone any illegal or improper behavior. That being said, university policies are being followed. We are investigating the matter and it’s important that we gather all information relevant to the situation before we determine what policies may come into play. Then we can take appropriate action if necessary.”Bishop did not play for the Bulldogs during the 2017 season. We’ll keep you updated as details become available.[Dawgnation]

(Photo by Tom Pennington/Getty Images)Yes, we’re still two months away from either poll – the Coaches’ Poll or the AP Poll – being unveiled ahead of the 2019 college football season. But assuming there aren’t too many roster/coaching changes before then, we have a pretty good idea of what it’s going to look like.Clemson, undoubtedly, will be the No. 1 team in the country. Even if some voters actually believe that Alabama will reclaim its status as the best program in college football this season, the Tigers are going to be given the benefit of the doubt after how last season ended.Alabama will be No. 2 – there’s also no doubt about that. After that, it’s kind of up in the air. Georgia, which had Alabama on the ropes in the SEC title game a year ago, will likely come in at No. 3.After that, it’s likely some combination of Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, LSU, Texas and Notre Dame.
Finger spinners need to reinvent to remain relevant in ODIs: HarbhajanHarbhajan, who has played three 50-over World Cups including two finals, is still not ready to count Jadeja for the upcoming quadrennial tournament in England.advertisement Press Trust of India WellingtonFebruary 5, 2019UPDATED: February 5, 2019 18:43 IST Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have not been regular part of India’s limited-over sides since the Champions Trophy in 2017 (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSHarbhajan Singh says Ravindra Jadeja can still be part of India’s World Cup squadHarbhajan Singh heaped praise on Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for their consistencyHarbhajan Singh also pointed out that the quality of batting against spinners has gone downSenior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels Ravindra Jadeja is still in with a chance to make India’s World Cup squad on the back of his all-round skills but to survive purely as a finger spinner, he will have to improvise.Wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have become India’s preferred choices in the shorter formats over the last 18 months, while Jadeja and R Ashwin have gone down in the pecking order.Harbhajan, who has played three 50-over World Cups including two finals, is still not ready to count Jadeja out even though he was not a part of the playing XI during the just-concluded ODIs in New Zealand.”If you remember, during the 2017 Champions Trophy, the weather in UK was hot and humid. So, if conditions are same, Jadeja could still be used as a package, if the opposition team has five to six right-handers in their line-up. Play him as No.6 with Hardik Pandya as No.7. Also he is still your best fielder,” Harbhajan told PTI during an exclusive interview. One of the finest off-spinners of his generation, Harbhajan agreed that finger spinners’ stocks are down compared to wrist spinners.”It’s simple, wrist spinners have three basic variations. Leg-break, googly (wrong-un) and the flipper. If you add top spinner, which is rarely used in ODIs, it becomes four,” the 38-year-old with 417 Tests and 269 ODI wickets, said.”Now come to an off-spinner. If you don’t have an effective doosra, the off-breaks become predictable and good batsmen will line you up for slogging. Even Nathan Lyon was struggling in the ODIs and he is a classical off-break bowler.advertisement”Unless you have the ball that leaves the right-hander, it is very difficult to dislodge the leg-spinners from shorter formats.”Quality of batting against spin on the decline: HarbhajanThe veteran also feels that worldwide, there has been a decline in the quality of batting against spin bowling, especially the wrist spinners.”The art of reading the spinners out of the hand is on the decline. Most of the overseas batsmen, if you see, are trying to read wrist spinners after pitching and that’s dangerous,” he lamented.”However, Kuldeep and Chahal have been very consistent. Just check their pitch map through the 40-odd games and the length has been very accurate. But unlike Indian batsmen, who are masters at reading the hands, it is not the case with most of the overseas batsmen,” Harbhajan explained.”I will give you an example. Kuldeep and Chahal would have had a tough time if they had to bowl to Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma as both are very good players of spin bowling.”But Rohit has had his share of problems against leg-spinners?”Yes, that’s just in a few IPL games during initial overs of an innings. If it’s a 50-over match and a player of Rohit’s calibre is batting against the wrist spinners, he has that quality that he will hit him to any part of the ground. Whenever and wherever he wants to.””Or for that matter Gautam Gambhir, who is another terrific player of spin bowling. He was such a fabulous player as he would watch it from the hand and play late with the spin,” he reasoned.Kedar Jadhav has been India’s specialist finger spinner in the 50-over format during the past two years (when not injured) and his low bounce makes him a useful bowler, said Harbhajan.”Kedar’s low bounce makes him a difficult bowler. In any case, he is short and with that side-arm action, the balls keep very low. He grips the ball in such a way that, it would never hit the seam and so there won’t be true bounce available to hit the deliveries through the line.”The ball will never hit the ‘sweet spot’ of the bat and so the batsman will not get the required elevation,” he signed off. Also Read | Excited to test New Zealand’s bench strength in T20 series against India: WilliamsonAlso Read | ‘Hardik Pandya was disturbed by Koffee with Karan row but he learnt from his mistake’Also See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
